Girls tennis pushes through season with new coach

Senior Kelly Truong returns a serve during a match at the Eisenhower Invitational in September.

The carousel of coaches ends now for the girls tennis team.

After having three different coaches over the last four years, coach Russell Fluty looks to make a lasting impact with the team.

He played tennis at the collegiate level, showing his experience as a player. Not only did he play at the collegiate level, he also has plenty of coaching experience in the Goddard district.

Fluty came into the season without any expectations.

“We want girls who qualify for state,” he said at the Eisenhower Invitational. “That is the goal every year.”

Their top singles player is senior Kelly Truong, who said she is excited to learn from the coaches and has similar goals to when the season started.

“Just keep on improving,” she said.
